Just a few suggestions here to make everything easier for everyone playing.

A) The Chat.

1) keep it short. The chatbox will actually cut you off after about two lines of text anyway, and the autorefresh is pretty quick.

2) Combat is best done on the live chat. it still takes a while but forum combats would take weeks to accomplish anything.

3) Your login for the live chat should be your characters name, for obvious reasons. I will be logged as Radiationjunkie solely because i will be STing and probably NPCing multiple characters at once.

B) The Forum

1) Noone is going to critize or tell you how to play. But i personally prefer details. Gob them on, drown me in adjectices, stroke me gently with prose and expose....

2) Make your posts as long as you want. I dont care if its literary masturbation i would prefer internal monolouges over 3 word posts any day.

3) Please please please PLEASE PLEASE edit and proofread your posts. The occassional spelling or grammatical error isnt going to kill anyone but constantly doing either may.
Meaning i may kill you.
Have some pity on your readers.

4) Going with above, try to write like you read. As in story style. Im not asking for shakespeare... but simple things like pronouns, periods, and Quotes around dialog, as well as the always popular paragraph structure are a fucking godsend.

If you post a heinously errored block of text with no punctuation im liable to just PM it back to you, delete your post and say: 'try again please'.

5) also, since ive been asked more than once. Its makes no difference if you post in first person or third person, as long as you are comfortable with it and do it correctly.

Combat in the Forum:

If you gotta fight, you gotta fight. BUT, forum fights will be done with LOADS of detail, no.. i punch... i dodge.. i punch back... And all dice rolling will be done by me. Simply add your corresponding statistics with your corresponding attack descrïption and i will bust out the 10 sideds and tell you how you did.

Naturally this will be a lengthy process, i hope that will discourage you from foolish violence.. Intelligent people dont brawl. Intelligent people have already won the fight before it starts.

If you know what i mean then good, if not try to only fight in the chat.

And i will find a diceroller we can all access in the name of fairness for chat combat, use of disciplines, skill checks and all that jazz.

Remember: That which does not kill you was simply not permitted to do so for the purposes of the plot.

unformed realms of infinity beyond
all Nature as we know it; from
realms whose mere existence stuns
the brain and numbs us

Really I just wanted to post here to make the light bulb come back on. Obviously the above post needs to be read again.

So READ IT!

These conditions are not arbitrary, they are not polite requests, they are mandatory. Failure to follow them equates to first being ridiculed, and then relinquishing your character. We have all put a great deal of work into this Forum, RadiationJunkie especially, and want it to be the best that it can be, but this requires everyone to pitch in. To put it more succinctly, I will put it as my father often told me when I was a small boy and he was a Doberman breeder:

"If you can't run with the big dogs, stay on the fucking porch."

Calling attention to gross violations of rules as well as etiquette in the public boards will continue, I know it is not particularly enjoyable, but you are not supposed to enjoy being embarrassed. That is kind of the point. Furthermore, the psychological impact of embarrassment is expressly so that we do not have to deal with this again, from you or anyone else. So, if you screw up and need to be corrected, you can expect it to be out in the open as well. The motivation here, is for you to ensure that we do not need to punk you.

Personally, I hold this truth to be self-evident, but apparently it needs to be said: This game depends on people's ability to write. It is something of a sliding scale, but the objective is for each and every one of us to improve at writing and telling stories, no matter what our respective starting points. We have formed a solid community of skillful and imaginative people who have collectively poured thousands of hours into this project. Everyone in this community works very hard at maintaining their lawn, some more than others, but this is to be expected. The point is that we have become increasingly selective about who we allow to take up residence in this community because we have had more than our fill of people who make it through the background check, yet inevitably lower the property value for all the rest of us with their illegible, trite, and banal scribblings.

Rules and expectations are clearly posted, everyone knows them, and if they do not the responsibility still falls squarely upon their shoulders. And -if only because I already find myself needing to explain things that I think need no explanation- I will tell you why:

Ignorance of the law is no excuse. This expression can be traced back to the beginnings of Western civilization, and is still in use today. If a defendant were allowed to escape legal responsibility for his acts, merely by saying "I didn't know any better", the system of using law to regulate human conduct would collapse. So the doctrine is a necessity. A related concept in law is "willful blindness": This applies to those who should have known, and could have asked, but deliberately chose not to ask. The law regards "willful blindness" as equivalent to knowledge.

So once again, by way of summary, I will posit; You know what is expected from you here, if you are unwilling or unable to adhere to those great expectations, you need to go and candy-stripe elsewhere. If you are willing to put in the same effort as everyone else...

                 Welcome to Sanfield Rock.
