Seamus tries to keep a relatively low profile, at least on the "supernatural" side of things.  The company that pays for his home and his lifestyle expects an office to get setup, and as such, it has.

The Black Arc's cover organization has also sent a sleeper by the name of Lucas Franklin, a wonderfully gifted young man and prime candidate to become an apprentice to the Virtual Adepts.  But on rainy Tuesday like today, it's business as usual.

Seamus arrives in the office, as usual, whenever he pleases and finds Franklin at his office on a conference call with what sounds to be a new client on another floor of the office tower, Seamus will wave as he walks by his office and then will proceed to his own.

The secretary, a classy, yet busty brunette by the name of Victoria hands him a few messages left for him as he passes by.

Upon further investigation one of the messages is from the Sanfield Rock City Council wanting to address an upgrade to the city governments antiquated computer system.  There is a name and number on the note, someone named Philip Rathbone.  He closes the frosted glass door to his office and punches in the number left on the message.

Somewhere, Philip's phone begins to ring.

After several rings a familiar three note tune will sound followed by a monotone female voice informing you that the number you are trying to reach has been disconnected.

Seamus will hang up the phone with a perplexed look on his face.  This message was not yet a day old, and he knows the secretary who wrote it is nigh infallible when it comes to numbers.  The only explanation he can reach is that someone at City Hall either has the wrong information, or it became disconnected recently.

Seamus will spin around in his high dollar ergonomic super chair and begin typing away on the computer terminal behind him, trying to see if this man is listed in any of the official public records the city keeps...

2009-01-30 10:26:52 Seamus rolls 6 dice to Int + Compies... 5,5,1,7,3, 10 (1 success)

Then again, if he's not on any public records...there are always the private ones...

The public records will only confirm what Seamus already knows. Phillip Rathbone lives in Sanfield and works for city hall [Branch will be added by Phillip].

As he thought the search of Sanfields public records will simply give him the name of the man he already knows and the phone number which he now knows doesn't work...

So instead of giving up Seamus decides to do a bit of wet work...

2009-02-02 07:57:19 Seamus rolls 6 dice to Int + Compies (diff: 7) 1,4,5,5,4, 8 (failure)

Seamus seems to be getting absolutely nowhere with his search.  Typically the Adept is far more...well....adept than this but it seems today is not his day.

2009-02-02 07:57:49 Seamus rolls 6 dice to Int + Compies (Diff 8 (+1 diff, previous failure, Specialty: Hacking (rerolled 10's)) 8,10,5,1,5, 8,8 (3 successes)

At last after a few hours of typing away furiously Seamus manages to get into the internal servers of the city and starts to poke around...

[Note: I adjusted your diffs up to hacking a 'small network' since you wouldnt know which exact PC was Philips. In reality you should have been ahcking a large network or a mainframe at diff: 8 (diff: 9 with your failure) but we'll give you a break this once.]

It will take Seamus around three hours to hack into the network at city hall. Their system is secure but its not impenetrable. Sensitive data would likely be much harder to access.

[Since he succeeded, Seamus has 3 dice to search for information, please decide on a search string and roll at diff:6 ]

Seamus, finally getting into the networks at city hall begins to start querying information.

2009-02-03 10:41:24 Seamus rolls 3 dice to Hacking 1,5,3 (BOTCH x 1)

Seamus gets no warning but he is immediately traced. His attempts to penetrate city hall have awakened some latent defense system- or maybe he was already a target to begin with. Bleeding edge tech firm and the Syndicate -isnt- involved? I dont think so.

Needless to say Seamus wont find what hes looking for, no sooner does he pull up a search string than does his computer suddenly restart itself with no apparent adverse effects.

Seamus will immediately jump from his chair and pull the network cable from the back of the computer.  This isn't something that happens to him, or any of the computers he works on.  Nothing he has ever just reboots on it's own.

2009-02-03 12:37:11 Seamus rolls 4 dice to Int + Enigmas (Diff 7 - Analyze the problem, +1 for sudden occurance) 1,8,3,9 (1 success)

Seamus quickly starts combing through the logs for any sign of what happened, of course there are the normal computer activity logs, but diving down into the system logs, he looks for what caused the shutdown...

2009-02-03 12:39:46 Seamus rolls 4 dice to Perc + Alert 5,5,5,7 (1 success)

What Seamus finds is most disturbing and probably beyond him as to how it happened so fast. It seems his computer in the span of seconds processed multiple terrabytes of video and picture data and redistributed that data to easily a hundred thousand locations on the internet- all with the Franklin Johnson and Associates seal of approval and no attempt to hide his IP addresses.

Just as Seamus locates this information the phone on his desk rings, the caller id lighting up with 'Sanfield PD'.

Seamus will pick up the hands free headset phone as he walks back to the Virtual Adept haven....

"Good Afternoon, Franklin, Johnston and Associates, what can I do for you today?"

As Seamus hastily sits down at one of the massive rigs he slots his phonebrick into one of the ports on the main chassis and switches on the completely independent network that the haven runs off of. Seamus quickly begins re-sealing the offices network and completely changing his IP address block.

Seamus will slip what looks like a monocle over his head and lean back in a very comfy chair.

2009-02-03 12:52:55 Seamus rolls 4 dice to Arete (Diff 5, used willpower, Dive, diff -1 foci: phonebrick) 5,8,9,10 (5 successes)

2009-02-03 12:55:00 Seamus rolls 6 dice to perc + computer (Begin trace and reclamation of information) 3,9,10,1,6, 5 (2 successes)

'This is detective Stern with the sanfield cybercrimes unit. I have a few questions for you Mr. Johnston and since you seem like a respectable gentleman id like to give you the opportunity to come down here and meet with me.'

Sterns voice make it clear that there are alternatives to this arrangement. When Seamus makes his jump into the web he will have a silver string attached to his head, a representation of the phone-line to the cybercrimes unit.

Running a retrace of the apparent attack on his system wont be easy, but Seamus is able to locate a possible path he can follow.

[Seamus will need to amass 10 successes without getting a botch to trace the attack. Each roll represent ten minutes of time in the net.]

"I'd be happy to detective.  We've just had something go horribly wrong here at the office and as we speak I'm trying to get us back up and running from what I assume was an attack or hijack attempt.  Right now everything is down, even our door locks.  I've set a few programs running to trace the culprit but it will take some time.

Of course the Sanfield PD is always welcome to observe our work, but it's going to take me just a bit to actually make it out of the office.  Can I join you in just a bit or would you perhaps like to come here Detective?"

2009-02-04 09:38:42 Seamus rolls 6 dice to Manip + Exp (Persuade, specialty: rerolled 10's) 6,1,2,10,6, 9,7 (4 successes)

All the while Seamus is talking his fingers and mind go in other directions.  Finding the thing gossamer threads of connections broken, hooks, hijack points in his software, everything he needs is here, He just has to find it...

2009-02-04 09:40:22 Seamus rolls 6 dice to Perc + Computer 8,4,3,9,8, 1 (2 successes)

(2/10 needed) (or is it 4/10 from the initial roll?)

[You are 4/10.]

Theres silence on the line for a moment. Detective Stern really wants to think Seamus is a good, upstading citizen but what he just saw come out of that office was horrible and is now coming up to his team as having been linked to similar atrocities all over the world for the last ten years.

Seamus is looking more and more like a child pornography kingpin with each passing second.

2009-02-05 11:56:38 Detective Stern rolls 8 dice to Intel+Computers [trace] (Diff 10) 6,3,4,10,3, 3,2,1 (failure)

'There will be officers on the way Mister Johnston. I trust you wouldnt be trying anything as foolish as destroying evidence, would you?'

Stern types away, trying to run a trace on Seamus's office's current activities. He finds himself blocked, someone with far more influence and clearance than he is already having their way with the system.
