An old man asks if I would like to purchase his newspaper, I reply something about him being the posterchild for Euthanasia, but the comment is disregarded due to his minimal intellect. In the panicked din of the subway station, mixed with the electrical hum, what begins as a sort of low, muffled, growl grows in volume as it nears in proximity until it is a bestial roar, just on the other side of a door on the farthest side of the subway tube. Heavy, rapid footsteps soon follow, but the timing is strange, more akin to a gallop, though there is an absence of the clicking that one would expect from hooves. Instead it is more of a meaty slapping which causes the concrete to reverberate.

Seconds later, the steel fire-door explodes off of it's hinges in a cloud of concrete dust and a shower of rocks. The door, almost folded in half goes careening into the last railcar with ballistic momentum, crumpling steel supports and shattering windows. Hyde emerges from the cloud of dust, scanning the narrow service walkway for his quarry.

Beauty has seen Hyde lose his temper. This is something entirely different. Her days of paranoia have all come to a tremendous peak. The boogeyman is real, and Beauty created him. Her insticts to run to a crowded place are foiled when the door explodes behind her. She narrowly avoids being hit by the steel door, made to stop infernos.

The busiest late train is the midnight train. As second shift gets off all over the city. The platform Hyde rages onto goes from boring and sleepy to three dozen running, screaming, terrified people in an instant.

Beauty neglects her obfuscate, it cant hide her from Hydes wild eyes anyway. She appears in the middle of the platform, adding to the terror and confusion of the kine around them. Beauty's tattered dress whips around her emaciated frame like a battle flag, she lowers her head and glares with black eyes at Hyde, calling back to his challenge.

'What in the bloody hell do you think your going to do to me Hyde!?'

Beauty is playing defense, this is no ordinary frenzy from Hyde. She can only run so far, and if she hasnt outalsted his anger yet, she may not. The stairs could have taken Beauty to the street, but they are now clogged with fleeing Kine. Beauty's only chance at escape is to find a way onto the next train, she can already feel its rumblings under the soles of her clawed feet.

Nothing else matters, anything coming between them is merely an obstacle waiting to be smashed or torn asunder. Were he capable of answering her, capable of anything other than bellowing like some insane, wounded animal, he would tell her that the answer is obvious; what he is doing, is Succeeding her.

His actual response is far less verbose, stepping forward and lifting a long, muscled arm straight out to his side, he wraps his powerful hand around the only weapon in reach; a fleeing commuter. Snatching the businessman by the face.

The rumbling intensifies as one of the late trains rolls into the terminal. With a rush of air and a near deafening sound to drown out the cries of the panicked kine. This train is an express, from the powerplant, it will not be stopping at this slummy terminal, just rushing through on its way downtown...

Beauty should run again, she should jump aboard and put as many bodies beetween her and Hyde as she can manage.

As soon as he comes to his feet the blur that was Beauty is upon him, with crushing force, she launches them both off the platform, narrowly missing the midnight express as they sail across the now empty first track and smash through a window of the departing train on the other side.

Dumb animal though it may be, it does not forget being poked, and abused, and starved while Hyde has the leash. Now it will relish in bringing all of his well-laid plans to ruin, even if it means its own destruction. The Beast does not feel pain, or remorse, or fear. It knows only rage. Hate. Hunger.

Hyde tenses as she withdraws the steel shaft from her midsection, readying to be struck in kind. When she suddenly drops it and hurls herself out the back, his trepidation turns to burning rage once more as his opponent slips from his sight.

Not wasting a second, he takes two quick steps to the side and slams himself into the frail, windowed wall.
