I'd parked the Shelby there over an hour ago. There was a bottle in my grasp, nearly empty, stained and no longer pretty.
I lay on the hood of my car; the vibrations of the songs were felt under my back. It could have been soothing had it not been so painful.
You are one of God's mistakes,
You crying, tragic waste of skin,
My gown had been lovely, a silk of pearl grey, and then I tossed my left shoe into the sea and hissed as it swallowed it in one gulp. And so, for fear of it being lonely I tossed in the other as well. Then with an ache I watched it as it slipped away and the water's icy tongue lapped over my ankles and slowly reached my knees.
I don't like you anymore,
You lying, trying waste of space...
There was a bonfire a ways away, a group of children laughing and drinking cheap wine coolers. I did not want to watch their laughter; I did not want to hear their joy.
Upon my back, the wings that I wore at the party were now dotted with mud, streaked with water-stains, they could never again be what they were.
Before our innocence was lost,
You were always one of those...
I sensed him near me, curiosity always got the better of them, even though my eyes were closed. Even if he floated he still would have made too much noise.
He was stoned in a way I had longed to be, an infusion of different drugs running though his veins. He asked me if I had been banished from Heaven.
I opened my eyes and told him to go away, but I knew he would not, for a moment I almost saved him.
'Stay...' I whispered and allowed him to share the space on my car. He looked at the stars and spoke of constellations in his mind as he pointed out Orion.
And when I told him nothing mattered and nothing was more then what we made it out to be, he closed his eyes and told me we write our own history.
As his eyes closed I sank my teeth into him and then kissed his pale-white cheek. I laid him on the ground and promised him that tomorrow I would search for constellations, with or without him.
