Desmond found his way to the Cathedral a day or so after the disaster at his own church. He had cleaned up and composed himself since then... but he still felt troubled. His life may be in jeopardy, but oddly, he felt safe here, and he needed a moment to think. He moved slowly to the front, looking around him before gazing up at the image of the crucified Jesus. He sits in the front pew, then bows his head in silence. Maybe he is praying.. maybe he is asking for guidance...

He had recently found himself living a nocturnal schedule, not that he preferred it, but it was hard to stay a morning person when staying with someone like Lenor.

Earlier, he had checked with the hospital about the injured people that had been caught in the blast. Now, he sits praying for them, and wondering what to do next. He had been convinced by his Goth friend not to seek out the church that the mysterious helpful woman had pointed out to him on the night of the attack… though he wondered if she was being over-suspicious.

He felt the need to do something. Sitting around and hiding behind lawyers didn’t seem right when there were people being hurt on the streets with God being used as a mask. But what could he do? He lifts his eyes upward… as if asking that very question to the heavens. He knew he had purpose here, that there was a reason he had been sent to this city, and it was for that that he would never turn tail and run… even if that would seem like the smart thing to do…

Solomon emerges from the shadows in the back of the room. He wears a tattered old red and green stripped sweater and torn brown pants. His iron mask is obscured by bending light. In its place, is the kindly face Desmond knows. For some reason, he is barefoot.

He treads lightly on the wooden floor, not wanting to disturb the Reverend's prayers.

A board creeks loudly as his weight shifts onto it.

He usually isn't so jumpy, but in the current situation... the sound startles him, and he looks up quickly.. his heart pounding. He calms visibly when he recognizes the person who had stepped out from the shadows.

"Solomon." He smiles gently.

"I am sorry, my friend. I did not mean to startle you."

Solomon closes the remaining distance between them quickly, clutching the Reverend's hands in his.

"Is everything alright? I saw you praying and..."

"It is alright. I think I am still a little jumpy..." A faint smile, letting the other man take his hand, looking up at him. His sadness is evident in his face even before he speaks about the tragedy, in a mix of other emotions.

"I have stumbled upon something I have feared I am not strong enough to handle." He speaks quietly. "A force that is harming people for control and claiming it in the Lord's name..." He isn't often angry, but this angers him, as subtle as the signs are. "They call themselves a church. But when I went there inquiring about the rumors, I was attacked by one of their members." He frowns.

"When I returned to my own church... it had been... nearly destroyed. Someone had planted a bomb. Four were injured." He draws in a deep breath. "I was praying for their recovery."

"So then, you will know them by their fruits..."

Solomon intones the verse from Matthew, looking sorrowfully into the Reverend's eyes.

"I am sorry for what has happened... but fear not. Better is the little of the righteous, than the abundance of many wicked. For the arms of the wicked shall be broken, but the Lord sustains the righteous."

A small light in his eyes rekindles, hearing the scrïpture spoken from Solomon.

"Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him." He quotes in turn, gazing up past the other man for a moment at the cross that is the center of the altar.

"It isn't for me that I fear." Turning his eyes back to Solomon. "This false church is spreading hate and violence. I do not feel as if I should stand by and do nothing. And yet I don't know what I should do..."

"You should pray for those injured and bolster hope in the community. That is your duty, as a man of God. It is left to others to deal with these false prophets. God will surely smite them."

"It seems that even doing so will anger them into harming more people... but I will not give up that mission. If it means rebuilding the church a hundred times... Moving to another building may not make much difference. They would find it either way. At least rebuilding brings people together... a sense of purpose... I am just not sure if it is safe yet."

"It would be best to lay low for a time. Rise from the ashes once the smoke is clear. I will be there to help you rebuild."

He clasps Reverend Quade on the shoulder, smiling warmly.

He nods gently. He feels restless in the face of such destruction, but he knows he must be patient in order to persevere. He lets his faith wash over him, a calm moment coming over him.

"Thank you, my friend." He pats his arm with a grateful expression.

Solomon takes a seat on the nearest pew, looking to the Reverend.

"Do you have somewhere safe to stay? Somewhere no one would know to find you?"

"I have been staying with a friend. I don't think anyone knows, and I have tried to be careful... but I do worry about her getting involved because of it." He leans back in the pew, glancing upward. "But it seems safe for now..."

"That is good... but you should be wary. If you ever suspect that you might be in danger, you or your friend, please make sure to come here right away. Their are many evils out there... but here, you will be safe... at least as long as I am around..."

He nods slowly, then gives Solomon a smile. "I will remember that... and I will be careful." He then begins to stand.

"Thank you. I was glad to have someone to speak with." He pats his hand on his shoulder lightly. "But I should go now. It is late."

"Be safe my friend."

Solomon takes the Reverend's hand in his, clasping it warmly.

"Come again soon so that I may know that you are well."

He smiles before turning about making his way deeper into the cathedral.
